Snes

of the two 16-bit consoles doing the rounds in the early nineties this was my personal favourite. the machine was more powerful and, hell, it just looked cooler (except for the US version which was a travesty of a console - purple and grey, what were you thinking Nintendo?). there are some nice shooters to be found on the Snes such as AXELAY, SUPER ALESTE, CYBERNATOR and UN SQUADRON. not the king of consoles as far as shooters go but definitely worth a look particularly as you can pick one up in the UK for about £15 and the games for as little as £1.50 (thank you Cash Converters).

AXELAY/.a fantastic shooter for the SNES, developed by the infamous Treasure. used mode 7 really well and is supremely hard. recommended. CYBERNATOR/.great platformy/shooty game. fantastic graphics for the time and rock-hard gameplay. nice.

DARIUS TWIN/.you either like the Darius series or you don't. i don't. this is cack.
SUPER ALESTE/.fantastic game which bears more than a passing resemblance to Gunhed on the PC Engine. best shooter on Snes, don't miss it.
