Playstation Portable

unquestionably a thing of great lovliness and huge potential (basically a handheld PS2 - come on cave get porting all those great PS2 games over), at the moment there are only a handful of shooters but who knows, more could appear as time goes on. one thing to note about the psp is the travesty of a D-Pad. this thing is even worse than the standard PS joypad D-pad, you can forget any feeling of accuracy or hitting a diagonal. thankfully you can get a new D-pad that sticks on top of the psp one to make 100% improvement. still not perfect but quite an improvement nonetheless.

CAPCOM CLASSICS COLLECTION/. a collection of old Capcom arcade games which, surprisingly, has some very decent shooters in it. namely - Sidearms, Varth, 1941, Forgotten Worlds, Legendary Wings, Last Duel and Section Z. most of these are very good games and the conversions are also very good.

GRADIUS PORTABLE/. absolutely brilliant, pretty much worth buying a psp for. the collection contains Gradius, Gradius II, Gradius III, Gradius IV and Gradius Gaiden. plus you also get all the movies from the Saturn and PS2 collections and all of the sound tracks from every game listenable in a player built into the game. each conversion has a selection of different screen sizes from original to stretched widescreen. all the conversions are top notch too. so come on, get yourself a psps i mean this is ALL GRADIUS GAMES ON A HANDHELD!!!!!!

SENGOKU ACE EPISODE III - SENGOKU CANNON/. oh dear. oh deary deary dear. oh deary deary dea....well you get the pictures. this is bad, very bad. an insult to the good name of psikyo, X-Nauts felt it necessary to release a very bland horizontal scroller, with very rough 3d backgrounds, rubbish bullet patterns and ludicrously fast player character. the inadequacy of the psp D-pad is really highlighted in this game. only buy it if you're desperate.

STAR SOLDIER/. superb conversion of the Star Soldier update originally released on the Gamecube. pretty much identical to be honest. the game actually has a tate mode which lets you take full advantage of the lovely wide psp screen.
